How to Register for the NC Surplus Lines Exam:
The NCSLA does not administer the North Carolina surplus lines exam. All questions regarding exam registration should be directed to the NIPR and Pearson VUE.
To register for the NC surplus lines exam, you must first complete the online application and pay the required fees through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). After submitting your application, you can schedule your exam by creating an account on the Pearson VUE website and following the instructions to schedule the exam.
Step 1: Submit an online application
- Go to the NIPR website,
- Select Licensing – Apply for a License, and complete the electronic application for a surplus lines license.
- Pay the application and processing fees through the NIPR system.
Step 2: Schedule your exam
- Visit the Pearson VUE website.
- Log in or create an account to access the exam scheduling portal.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to select the NC Surplus Lines exam and schedule a date and time.
Step 3: Prepare for the exam
- Complete any required pre-licensing courses before your exam date.
- Review the NC Surplus Lines Exam Study Guide and Video Sessions.
- Review the NC Surplus Lines Act (Statutes), also included in the Study Guide.
